I moved a 10 meg movie from one folder on my idisk to another. Rather than just move the file on the remote side, the file was re-transferred from local to host... grrr

I'm sure Apple can build more smarts into the syncing process to make it more efficient.

I sincerely hope they don't as there are no such things as smarts. Please desist from using this currently in-vogue, but dreadful phrase. That is all.

Yup, I find the syncing to be pretty flaky. If you have a largish file in there it has a tendency to just give up and pop up a "I couldn't transfer this file, and I don't feel like trying anymore" type of error message.

Not to mention the fact that it won't work through a proxy server makes it essentially useless to me. I wish I could just use a network share.

I find the iDisk syncing to be most excellent at best. I put a file in it at work and when i get home its already in my sync'd iDisk. The only draw back is if you are short on hard drive space, but with the prices of hard drives lately...

If your computer (and by extension), your iDisk can access the internet, then it works perfectly and almost seemlessly. If it doesn't then I can see your problem, but then how do you use it without the syncing option.

Oh, and I'd say something other then dial-up is required for its full effect.

Cheers!

In Panther (7B85), if you have iDisk syncing turned on...it seems like you HAVE to have your iDisk always mounted...I was hoping it would happen without having to mount the iDisk (at the user interface level, at least)...I frequently change the way I am connected to the internet and having a mounted network volume can result in beachstalls (beachball stalls...heh) when the computer realizes it isn't accesing the remote server in the same way...

Also...my iDisk shows up on my desktop unless I uncheck 'CDs, DVDs and iPods' in the Finder Prefs...? Anyone else seeing that behavior? Seems like a potential bug...

I prefer the manual process.
