startup items question

	I have HP All-in-One Software installed on my system (10.2.8). There is a process that is always running out of /Library/Printers/hp from this install. I cannot figure out what is starting it. I've looked in /System/Library/StartupItems and /Library/StartupItems as well as the crontab. There is nothing in my Login Items panel for this as well. Anything I'm missing? A second question: are Login Items written to a flat file somewhere?
