Topic pretty much says it all. Date & time sdeems to be working in Sys. prefs, but I get spinning beachball when mousing over the clock in the menu bar, & I can't turn it off in prefs. What process to I kill to unhang it?

(logging out/in didn't work, and caused a looong hang at finder launch)

Logged out again, then in as different user, and now all is well when logging back in to my main account. Weirdness. System UI server was using 80% for a while there, too. I guess it will remain a mystery...

Still would like to know if there's a process you can kill in the terminal when the clock hangs.

killall -HUP SystemUIServer will do it.

The clock isn't a separate process. Like all true MenuExtras it runs as a plugin to SystemUIServer.

Thanks I did a basic kill SystemUIServer once, but that didn't do it. I'll try your method the next time it crops up.
