In anticipation of the launch of OSX.3, I'm wondering how you will install it on your machine. Will you install over OSX.2.x or will you do a clean install?

I have a 15" 1GHz Powerbook and reformatted and partitioned the hard disk the day it arrived (early this year). I'm wondering if I should reformat the drive and do a clean install of Panther when it comes out, or if I should just install over 10.2.8.

Insight would be appreciated. Any tips for doing a reformat and clean install would be appreciated as well.

I'm hoping you just forgot the Archive and Install option(as opposed to it's not being there).

These questions have been addressed in other threads like this one.

I'm still debating, but will most likely install over Jaguar.

I will do it first on my oldest Mac..a orange ibook. Panther is supposedly very fast on older G3 machines, so it will be interesting.

If it works well on that for a week or so I'll put it on white ibook which runs a 500 mhz g3. Also I will just install over Jaguar.

I have no plans on installing it on my 1.42 G4 tower though... it runs perfectly and don't want to mess with it until the bugs are worked out of Panther.

But on my laptops where the speed increases/operations are supposedly very much improved, particularly on g3 chips, I think it will be a very good investment.

Neither. Archive Install. By far the best option.

Already been said before, but I'll say it again:

1. Please do a search before posting.

2. Archive install.
