Does CanoScan (Canon Software for scanners such as CanoScan N670U) work in Panther?

I have used it with Photoshop in Panther and it works great! I am not sure if the native Canoscan app works as my scanner doesn't support it. But using the Photoshop plugin has no problems

The plugin (ie you need a host app to scan) works but all the extra stuff like the button manager does not and probably never will.

Software for my LiDE 30 is dated 2002. I am having only a few problems, mostly related to the driver not being recognized.

the canon site does not list panther

http://www.usa.canon.com/html/conCpr...;section=10145

so, what's the bottom line as to panther compatibility: does the plugin work but only with a 3d party app? does the plugin work with canon's stupidlynamed toolbox app?

does it matter if it's a lide scanner and software?

"only a few problems, mostly related to the driver not being recognized" -- sounds kinda seriously bad to me.

i've been googling and it seems to me the panther situation is this:

the software should work under panther, but archiving and installing panther will move files needed and the canon installer won't work under panther so the moved files (i did not see a list of what they are) must be hunted for and placed where they should be.

can anyone add to this?

i haven't installed panther yet; with jaguar, i saw a wonky installer finally work when one got info for it and checked 'open in classic.'

could this be a fix for the canon driver installer?

I'm having no trouble with my Lide 30. Buttons work. Photoshop plugins work. Canoscan works.

Grab the TWO files from the canon site and install them both.

The installation process is a nightmare (I believe you have install something like 4 things), but the software works.

The problem for me is that the installer crashes. Can't get around it.

I've done an archive and install of Panther on two machines, and then ran Canon's installer afterwards without incident. I don't know if install problems can be laid solely at 10.3's feet.

On both machines the installer found Photoshop's plug-ins folder and the other locations it needs to stick files. I didn't have the scanner attached to the computers at the time.

No question that Canon uses a seriously ass-backwards installer, though.

P.S. Capitalized words are not the enemy.

I use the the latest software from Canon for my N 650U. As I remember having Photshop or PhotoShop elements is "required". It works flawlessly in Panther for me.

anyone here have a model N1220U and have it working with Panther? I am unable to. Either the installer will quit, or if it doesn't, I get an error at the installation process.

Also, for my scanner there is no "toolbox", only the basic driver to work with Photoshop.

I use the Canon LIDE 50 and the software on the CD is not up to date. I went to the Canon web sight and downloaded the driver and the toolbox software and it works great. No hiccups. The only issue I noticed that it doesn't scan any faster between my Rev B 17" and my 800Mhz FP iMac.
The 17" has USB 2.0 and my iMac has USB 1.1. I called Canon and they weren't sure about the driver fully supporting Panther especically since the web sight only mentions Jaquar and not 10.3 support.
Besides that all functions of the scanner work great in Panther.

Yes, the button manager does work in my CanoScan N670U with the Canon ToolBox app that I dowloaded from the canon website...

Yes, I use it with Photoshop Elements and now it works perfect in OS X.3.1.
I did an archive and install and after that the scanner did not work, I had to reinstall the plugin. Since than all is well

i use a canon lide 30 and the canon toolbox app to scan to multipage pdf. when i updated to panther, the app wouldn't launch.

i had watched a very nice apple store genius bar genius install the app and driver on machine running panther, so i was confident i could get my scanner working. (tho his installed and worked as a classic app).

in my app's sloppy folder i had a folder of plugins and such and i took that as a checklist and searched for them in my archived old system folder and moved/copied them to the new system. i also trashed some files in the os9 system folder. then i logged out and back in and scanned.

here is the read me file information i wrote for myself for next time:

___

installing by hand, my new read me file for 'ScanGear CS'
i wrote this after updating to Panther and fixing the canon toolbox app so that it worked in osX Panther.

i've just bought a lide30 today and everything works fine under panther [buttons and all] ... except for omnipageSE which gives an error right at the end of installation each time and then the installed app tries to run in classic when launched, even tho' the system sees it as a macOSX app.
