I tried installing Quicktime 6.4 via Software Update, but without success (OSX 10.2.8). Once it gets past the "downloading" stage and into the "installing" stage, SU just quits. No error message or anything.
I went to www.apple.com/quicktime and just downloaded the package. Once I get to the installation step (after clicking the Upgrade button), the installer quits. No error, etc.
I restarted, repaired permissions, and tried again. Same result. Never had any problem like this before.

I had this problem. I fixed it by banishing the Quicktime registration window that pops up during the install.

I don't get any such window.
I open the installer package, enter my password, click continue, agree to the license, select my HD, click upgrade, and it quits.
Software Update works as I described earlier. What confuses me is that SU worked fine last week for the iCal/iSync updates, and I haven't made any changes to my system since then. Even in that case, it doesn't explain why the downloaded package doesn't install either.
