Can anyone reccommend a good book to learn UNIX? One that focuses on OSX?

I've got unix for dummies but would like something a bit deeper.

Many thanks.

I picked up a Unix for OS X book at the bookstore... Most of the stuff I could have picked up online, but it was a fun read.

I took a Unix class at my College... wow, did that guy know his crap. Then again, he was one of those "we don't need a GUI" kind of people...

I haven't seen one that focusses on learning unix from a OS X point of view (doesn't mean that there is not one out there though).

One Unix-OS X book I have found useful is
"Mac OS X for Unix Geeks" by Brian Jepson and Earnest Rothman from O'Reilly (ISBN: 0-596-00356-0).

It assumes prior understanding of Unix to some degree, but I find between it and my other books like "Unix in a Nutshell" (also by O'Reilly)most areas are covered.

Edit:
I've just checked the O'Reilly site: looks like they're going to have some new Panther editions out in the next few months)

I would recommend Mac OS X Panther Unleashed. It is the third edition of the OS X Unleashed series. At over 1500 pages, it pretty much should cover everything.

The next question is will you be using tcsh or bash? I figure the Panther edition will get more into bash.

If you're not wanting to invest in the whole Mac OS X Unleashed (or wait for new Dec 2003 edn), check out http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...ce&s=books
for UNIX for Mac OS X: Visual QuickPro Guide.
I got it on basis of Amz reviews for ~$17.

I don't know what special implications Panther will have for Unix, but in December-ish O'Reilly is supposed to come out with Learning Unix for Mac OS X Panther. ( http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...ce&s=books ), although O'Reilly's Taylor/Jepson edition for Jaguar got mixed revs on Amz.
