I would like to install Panther on a wiped disk, but it takes so much time to reinstall everything. Also, I don't know where to store my 3+ GB music and all the other stuff while formatting.
If I delete my account, and take over only documents but not the Library, would that be the same like a clean install?

If you do aforesaid archive install, yes - with the caveat that it will still preserve your network settings. That's probably not a showstopper:)

Really? That would be perfect for me, too. A clean install without formatting. Can anybody confirm? What's the advantage of clean install then?

Except you're not reformatting the disk, which would be an automatic defragment, and would clean up all the inodes on the disk (this stuff sometimes can get a bit wonky).
It's not going to be a huge effect, but still, no it's not exactly like a clean install.
