I recall that in previous versions of OS X, there was a limit on the number of processes that could be run on the system. This limitation was not implemented in OS X Server, and there was a way to modify OS X to remove this limitation. Does anyone know if Panther has this limitation, and if so, how do you get around it? This seems like it could be a problem if you have multiple users logged on at the same time with many processes running.

You could have five users all using the maximum number of per-user processes and not run up against the system-wide limit. I think you can change the system's maximum number of processes with sysctl, but I've never really had any reason to try, and it's fairly unlikely you'll need to.

I didn't know there was also a maximum number of processes on a per user basis. Do you know what that number is set to in Panther?
