i regularly email MS Office docs from my mac at home (running 10.2.8) to my PC at work (running lotus notes) through Apple's mail app. whenever i do this, the documents get all jumbled by the time they arrive. yet when i transfer the files via flash, there is no problem. have any of you had similar problems? if so, is there a way to fix it? is running entourage the solution?

many thx in advance

I routinely get ppt and word docs through entourage and have emailed word docs to windows users before. Never any problems.

you can give it a try. test it out.

when you send the files, do they have the extensions visible? .doc, .ppt etc?

This works for me with mail. I gave up entourage long ago and am the only mac in a company littered with PC's.

It may (or may not) have something to do with the way Mail.app sends attachments. I know in Panther's Mail there's a setting to 'Always send Windows friendly attachments', whatever that means.

If you're using Mail in OS X.2.8 then you need to use GrimRipper to remove the resource forks from you Office attachments prior to sending them out:

This is not an issue in Panther, as the new Mail uses a different encoding format (instead of appleDouble) for attachments.
