How many of you actually have this option checked? I was adjusting some sleep settings today and i noticed that it was checked. Is it checked by default? I don't ever recalling seeing this checked off and I certainly did not check it off myself (unless i did it by accident).

How does this affect system performance? and when would i notice the effects of having this checked? gui responsiveness?

I check it off b/c I don't need my two back to back hard drives constantly spinning in my MDD. One drive is only for media and backup so I can tolerate the few seconds it takes to spin up while the rest of the time while I am online or doing school work I only need the boot drive. It is definately obvious though when the second drive spins down, well its actually obvious when it spins up after I try opening a file and I get the beach ball for 3-4 seconds.

just curious, if i don't put these hard drives to sleep and i run my computer 24/7, will these hard drives have shorten life span? Also, will they spin all the time if i don't access them but just not shutting my computer down?
