I wanted to update my 10.1 server to 10.2 and have been struggling. The G4 733 that 10.1 is on will not start up from the CD with X.2 server on it. (the Cd is not damaged as far as I can see)

I have tried C-key, pressing option and all other key sequences that might force it to start. It justs ejects the CD. I have done the open firmware thing, used terminal to ask it to start with the Server CD ( care of Dan Frakes) and a bunch of other CDs

In fact the server willl not start from any Cd except the latest Diskwarrior CD and a CD made on my G5(10.2.8) with bootCD. Even my emergency backup retrospect CD will not start it.

My firmware is up to date.

Is this something to do with the DVD drive??

So I thought I'll rebuild the server...Anyhow I bought a G4 1.42DP mirror doors, install OS X.2 from the DVD that comes with it, see that x.2 server can be installed on a drive that already hs X.2 on it, without starting from the CD, except it won't let me as it says the HD has newer software on it than I am trying to install with server and it won't allow old to overwrite new, which is sensible I guess...so i'm back where I started

X.2 server seems not to want to install, am i missing something, do I need Classic installed (or is that only with a 10.1 install)?? Either this is a horrible glitch or I am doing something wrong, if you are out there and can help...please tell me the answer

The Jag server CD is legit and was here when I arrived in the job 3-4 weeks ago, unused. Its not just that CD either very strange.

I have since discovered that whilst it will not boot up it is meant to be installed over 10.2.1 and later without start up and just a little tweaking in the terminal

see this apple article

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107124

so I have got it on the G4 mirrors.
