I swear I saw a thread in here on bash and converting tcsh aliases to bash aliases, etc and I'm sure that thread would answer my question, so if you know of that thread, just point me there. (yes i did do a search)

Anyway. I'm trying to get some aliases and PATH info to work with the bash shell in panther, so I made a .bashrc file in my ~/ and when I source the file manually all the info works great. Unfortunately, when I launch a new shell, the .bashrc isn't automatically read. Am I missing something really basic here, or where should I put such things if .bashrc isn't the place?

TIA

Hmmm. That's wierd. .bashrc should be sourced everytime a non-login interactive shell is launched. I guess you could try putting things in .profile. That might work. (although this might get sourced only once...)

Make a file called .bash_profile in your home directory, and add the following lines to it:

END=$HOME/.bashrc
export ENV=~/.bashrc
export BASH_ENV=$ENV
source ~/.bashrc
