preamble:
my home setup QS PMG4 @ 733MHz, 512 RAM
connected to netgear router/wi-fi base
ibook prints via the G4. both are in the 192.168.0.x subnet.
my G4 has a 17 day uptime and counting, I installed panther 17 days ago. still haven't seen the sucker boot.
in all that time, I have worked during the day (word, mail, browse, a little PShop, etc). done some gaming. accessed classic a couple of times.
hell, bittorrent hasn't stopped since day 1.
anyway
here I was, and suddenly the iBook didn't print.
so I restarted the iBook.
it didn't print. that pointed to the G4.
I restarted printing sharing. nothing
Then restarted the cups daemon (cupsd) ... nothing
I logged to CUPS's web interface and tested the printer ... it worked ... dammit
then i pinged the g4 from the ibook via rendezvous (ie. g4.local) and it didn't work.
that pointed to a network problem
so I went to directory services and restarted all 3 services.
now I'm printing happily from the iBook, and I kept my uptime
on a sidenote .. panther's memory management appears to be much better. before, bittorrent could single handed render jaguar useless in one night.
this has greatly contributed to the fact that uptime is still counting and my system has remained responsive till today. YMMV
gotta love OS X
cheers !
