I've been looking forward to Panther for months, and now it's here i'm to skint to buy it. However my girlfriend is just about to buy a new iBook, does anyone know if I will be able to install the copy of Panther that she will have on my PowerBook G4?
I know it's not right legally but I'll be so jealous of her! and I'll buy my own copy when i can afford it!

thanks in advance

In general, I can't claim absolute incompatibility, the restore CD's for one Mac are specifically coded for its hardware, and won't work on others.

If you're inclined you can put one machine in firewire target mode and copy the content of the HD from one machine to the other. This is how I set up my Alu12. I just copied everything across from my Alu17.

As for set up discs, I sold my Ti800 to my cousin and the set up disc was scratched. So he used the DVD disc that came with my Alu17 and it worked fine.

They're not coded. The setup routine checks the model and then installs whatever the defaults installation for that model is.

Use the Mac OS X Install CD, not the Software Restore CD's.
Scooters are more fun than computers and only slightly more frustrating
