I have encountered a problem when trying to connect to a shared printer on a Windows 2000 machine.
I go to the print center, and select "Add" -> "Windows Printing". There I select the workgroup, and I can see the machine I want to connect to. But when I try to connect to it, it asks for the username and password, but doesn't accept it.
I know this isn't a problem on the Windows side, because a Windows XP client on the network is printing on the shared printer (with the same username/password I'm trying to use) without a problem.
What could be wrong here? Is there anything I need to turn on? Is there a way I can enter the direct printer address: \\COMPUTERNAME\PRINTERNAME ?

I can't really help you since when I set mine up it worked first try...
I have noticed though in the Finder for file sharing some times its really finicky and I have to enter it a couple of times and then finally the volume will mount.

Have you connected to the computer that holds your shared printer during the same session so that it is still mounted while you are trying to set up your printer? If yes, that might be the problem. I had the same issue and noticed that when i had connected to the share it would not accept my un/password in the printer setup (makes no sense, of course, i know). I re-started my system to make sure the share was unmounted and then could set up the printer just fine. Let me know if this works for you too or if this was just a coincidence and the problem is different altogether. I think Panther's implementation of Windows Printing is absolutely horrid, especially considering that this was a highly publicized and advertised feature.

I think w2k passwords are encrypted. You may need to set them up to send in the clear... I forget the details, but I really seem to remember this being a big password issue with w2k.
I think WinXP sends in the clear by default, and W2k encrypts, or something like that.
Muck around on Google, or someone may know more about this and chime in...
