So one would think that a major developer such as Digidesign would have beta copies of OS X to code to...
Doesn't look like that is the case. After installing the core 7B85 system I promptly clicked on Protools - only to find a crash only remedied by a restart.
not cool.
Any input as to something I may have missed is greatly appreciated.

i´m afraid there´s nothing you have missed. it just don´t play together (yet) AFAIK (i´m not using it myself, i use logic platinum, which works better than ever btw.)
i guess you will have to wait for an update to resolve this issue ...

Hello shua,
Digidesign's website has a G5/10.3 compatibility page found here that may be of intrest. I don't know if you are using LE or TDM, but the page says LE and HD system updates will be available in mid-November, with others (such as Mix) to follow later. This is certainly dissapointing, as I too will not be able to run ProTools LE with my Mbox under Panther quite yet. I plan on installing a bare bones copy of Jaguar with PTLE on an external disk and booting from that disk when I need to record or mix.
Good luck!

So I'm running Logic with an MBox with the latest core audio. I'm not fussed about using PT. Will the MBox work in panther along with Logic or will I have to wait for Digi to release new core audio drivers?

Hi,
I wasn't able to find a direct answer on Digidesign's site. See this forum thread at the Digidesign User Conference for more info/help. I am of the opinion that it is the DAE layer of ProTools that is having problems with Panther, I would think Core Audio is ok. I will check that for you tomorrow once I've got Panther up and running!

Thanks. I asked the same question in that thread but no answer I'd appreciate an update when you've tried it with Panther.
Thanks
Michael

As with every comment/promise Digi makes - I wait much longer for their updates than I do my work - thats why I am an Editor first and a sound designer second.

Schuey 100 et all,
I installed Panther using the 'archive and install' option. As such, it removed the custom core audio drivers. I ran the re-installer and tested the driver with a few apps (Live, Reason, and iTunes). All is well with the Core Audio driver, playback and recording both running fine. I wonder if some of these problems with ProTools could be remedied by re-insalling PT? I'll try later tonight and post results in this thread.
Recap: If you run the Core Audio driver installer after installing Panther, you'll be up and running in any core audio apps.

Darn.
Re-installed PT LE 6.1, updated to 6.1.2. Launched ProTools and got slapped with a kernel panic. So it looks like PT users need to wait for a Digidesign fix.
To their defense, however, in all the documentation I've read about using ProTools with OS X, they warn users not to update until they've certified that release of the OS as compatible. They've even went as far as telling users to disable Software Update to avoid any conlficts.
I'm not too inconvenienced by the incompatibility, as my recording drive has my backup copy of Jaguar on it, I'll merely reboot to record.

Yes - I posted on this subject a while ago - like 2 weeks - so surely Digidesign will have known for much longer.
I'm a PT LE user and I get a full KP on launching PT. Strangely, other app's can access my Digi (Toolbox) hardware, so it's not the drivers - but maybe it's the way ProTools talks to the drivers, i.e. not via core audio . . .
ProTools is still the app of choice for many professionals, so it is a problem that it doesn't work now, especially if Panther is shipping on new Mac's today.
However, Digidesign aren't known to rush into things, so November might be a little optimistic . . .
