I'm thinking of getting a new ibook with Panther. My only problem is that I have a minidisc player with a USB digital PC link that only works on OS9.
Will the ibooks with Panther still have OS9 on them? I also have a music-writing program that is OS9 only. I'd like the new ibook, but I won't shell out all that money if I can't still use these apps. Plus, I'll be selling my pismo powerbook with its OS9 discs, so if this new ibook doesn't include OS9, I'll be out of luck. Thanks.

Classic is still there, yes. Even on new machines with Panther installed.

Note you CANNOT boot into 9. Classic mode is your only option.

Note also that hardly any music programs work in Classic mode, and that quite possibly your minidisc interface won't work from within Classic, either.

You should check this if you need to use either software.

Which music program are you using?#

If the music program interface to your minidisc player is USB, then there's a chance it will work in classic. Why don't you try installing OS X onto your Pismo and giving it a shot first. If you're going to format it (you are going to format it first, aren't you? Good, just checking!) and get rid of it, then there's no harm in installing OS X. If you don't have it, find a friend who does.

Before you all shoot me down, I'm not advocating pirating OS X. This is purely in the name of science, and I'm sure Apple wouldn't mind if they thought they might get an iBook sale out of it!
