I checked my status this morning and my order still says open...am I the only one in this boat?? I thought I read on other forums (or maybe here) that everyone who ordered was supposed to receive Panther the evening of the 24th...Should I call and check on status or wait until tomorrow???

No, your not the only one, as of just a few minutes ago my order status is still "open".
Apple is really pissing me off with this, as at first I wasn't able to order my Panther upgrade online (wouldn't accept my G5's serial #), and now this after promising me on the phone I would have it today.

When did you place your online order?

actually, I placed the 17th...unless they ship it next day today with Saturday delivery, the best we're looking at is Monday. It also annoys me that I couldn't just drive out to the &@*@#%&*@ apple store and pick up a copy there for 20 dollars...

Luckily, my G5 serial number worked and I didn't have that BS to deal with. I would think by now that Apple would have this down to a refined science..I guess not...

Actually, my understanding is that the Up to Date version of OS X will *not* be available at the Apple Store this evening. Only the retail box version or if you actually buy hardware tonight you will get a flat pack.

Perhaps it's my fault for trusting Apple with their "order now and get it on the 24th" deal. I didn't know I needed to pay the extra $$$ for FedEx shipping to get it on the 24th...

I'm upset, but not devastated.

I'm also a little cooler because I'm saving $70 on the deal (edu. discount) compounded by the fact that I'm buying a new hard drive and ram in a few days and don't really need the upgrade until then.

I don't feel bad for upgrade users having to wait an extra two or three days. It's only $20.

Some people that paid $129 should be the ones bitching like crazy... I'm getting the edu. version, so I'm bitching a little...

I've worked as a shipping consultant, and there is no such thing as it being a refined science.

You have to think of it as about 10 orders.

Up To Date being one, retail box being another, education being another, group being a third etc. etc.

that multiplied by all of the different shipping methods (next day, 2 day, standard etc. etc.)

It's tricky... I just would have rather have seen tom dick and harry to have received it yesterday and my copy (being the slow one) showing up on the release date.

mitchell_pgh, I know what you're saying..I have friends that work in logistics, and I know it can be rough. I am waiting for an upgrade since I purchased my G5...I'd just like to see it shipped, not open..

Just venting a little. Definitely not the end of the world...

I ordered the 17th and chose 2 day FedEx and it still hasn't shipped. I am so pissed. I hate when people promise stuff they can't deliver on. So basically Apple just ripped me out of $7.00 for 2 day delivery.
Do what's important not what's pressing.
