You must have led a very good life if that's the worst thing that's ever happened to you. Want to trade?

Just call 'em and see what they say. It'll only take a minute.

Take it into Apple store and tell genius that you were unable to upgrade and could he help.... he will see CD is damaged and offer to upgrade for you! Being nice works...... acting stupid doesn't hurt.

Reminds me of the day when Apple released Mac OS 8.5. I spent over an hour travelling to a Mac store by bus. Purchased the CD and spent some time watching demos. Took another hour to get home, of course. I eagerly opened the OS 8.6 box and guess what? There was absolutely no evidence of damage to the box, but the install CD was cracked clean through. Of course the CD wouldn't mount. So I had to spend another 4 bucks return bus fare and waste two hours going back to the store to get a fresh copy. Fortunately, there was still time (but not much) before the store closed. Nearly everyone wants to install a new Mac OS on the day of release, if possible. What a pain!

I don't think it is your PowerBook.

I put my disk in carefully (I read your post earlier today BTW) and the disk mounted and opened into finder.

Clicked on Install and nothing. It tries to open but nothing. Tried copying the files out of the disk and they won't read.

Take disk out, it has scratches all over it

You and I just got bad Install disks buddy. We're screwed. So we get to call Apple and get new ones sent out

Oh well...this is the first time I've ever had this happen so I'm bummed about not getting 10.3 installed tonight but well...at least I have a new girlriend as of this week

Hope all the rest of ya'lls installs went well.

Try to buff it with toothpaste, and do a good clean and dry. Works well when well done.

I find my method works better:

Get cross eyed twins to chew pumpkin seeds and cover the disk with them

Hand the disk from a north facing holly bush on a crossroads in a thunderstorm.

You disk will be fixed,
