So, I just got my panther, installed it (upgrade, not erase and install), and ran xbench. My Jaguar numbers were 96 @ highest setting, and 68 @ reduced setting. With Panther, both highest and reduced setting is about 79. So, at least according to xbench, my new Powerbook slowed down from its highest settings.

The rev b 12" has processor slewing in Panther, but not in Jaguar for some reason. Your processor setting in the energy prefpane is probably set to "automatic" which speeds up and slows down the processor as neccessary to get good performance and battery life. This seems to affect xbench numbers even though it is not noticeable in daily use (for me anyway.) I find the new automatic setting to be much better than the old "reduced" setting and to get similar battery life.

Hmm. I just re-read your message and it implies that you set highest and reduced manually. Make sure that you are setting it on the actual profile that is in use (power adapter) I have that problem sometimes.
