On my office iMac (500mhz) Safari will not start up and I get an error message about sending a report to Apple, which I did.

On my Cube at home Safari has trouble rendering pages including Apple's. It looks like it has problems with pages dependent on use of complicated tables.

Sounds likes possible problems in the upgrade from Jag. What kind of install did you do? Does the problem happen on another user?
My wife would say its the problems with those damned Steves.

This certainly isn't normal... Safari on Panther works fine for me... no worse than Safari/Jag in any case, and better in many.

So if Safari/Panther is working worse than Safari/Jag for you then there's an issue with your installation in some way.

Yeah, you have to watch out for us Steve's

I did an upgrade install on both computers. I think I have the problem on my iMac figured out.

The cube issue with the weird page rendering issues has me stumped and the problem does exist between users.

There must be some 'hack' to Jag that is causing Panther grief. I would do an Archive and Install to put in a fresh OS. Then go back and add the 3rd party stuff that you know works with Panther.

Figured out my problem with safari on my cube.

Safari Preferences > Advanced>Style Sheet: Changed to None Selected. I had originally had html4.css selected - why? I don't know. As soon as I switched it to None Selected things started looking right.

I’ve got the same problem on my G5 at work. Guess I’ll be doing a clean install first thing Monday morning!

By the way... I’ve only got two weeks left (lost my job to layoffs). Anyone know of a place that’s looking for web designer, I.T. specialist, marketing coordinator, and/or database developer?

Don't do a clean install.

For Safari not starting you need to check out this thread:

One of my servers has a Verisign certificate, and Safari claims it is signed by an unknown CA.
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.

Having similar problems. Did an upgrade install instead of a clean install as i wanted to do a quickie app check before wiping the HD. Safari is VERY slow and wont completely render pages including this forum. Had to revert back to IE to be able to post this. Since all my apps seem to work fine I will do a clean install this late weekend

Aha! You’re right. The other thread mentions SAFT, which I do have installed. I’ll have to get rid of that on Monday.

Thanks in advance!

SAFT is definitely a problem with Safari v100...had to delete the entire SIMBL directory out of my library. Safari started with no problems after that for me. Good news is, the + button now actually maximizes Safari to fill the desktop except for the dock area, so Saft would only really be useful in kiosk mode at this point, IMHO.

Another problem with Safari some users may be having is lack of keyboard input. Scrollbar can't be accessed, arrow keys don't work, things like that. The problem for me was Cocoa Gestures. Remove that and keyboard access to Safari is restored.
