I was working on restoring and updating my old 5gig iPod this eve and noticed that the 1.3 updater for the older iPods wont actually function in Panther.

Spinning beachball when you try to restore or update.

i had to use an old G4 Tibook with Jag to do the update/Restore ---

as with any major release, there are lots of little things that need to be updated to work with the new system....that is why apple release the ipod 1.3.1 updater today - it fixes the panther compatibility issue. run your software update.

So I have a 10gb 2G iPod, running FW 1.3.0 (according to the info) and attempted to apply the 1.3.1 update under panther, and it informs me that I am running 1.3 (up-to-date) and refuses to run... What gives?

Well the 1.3.1 is for the iPod Updater, not the iPod Software.

Anyone know what's new in this iPod update? Same features, minus recording of course, or just a minor update for Panther? I'm really hoping that Apple will update the software for the older iPods to allow menu customization. It gets tough sometimes while driving and trying to navigate through the menus!

Heh,

In your dreams. Apple won't update old iPods, they want you to buy new ones

Yes, what's new is that the app works in Panther. THIS IS NOT A FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR THE IPOD.
