iBook 600
640 MB RAM

Ok...did the Archive and Install option...

Finder crashed on me while syncing my iDisk and hung the entire machine. Now everytime I login, the Finder will constantly relaunch itself in an endless loop.

What can I do to get it to stop?

I cannot login as root since it's not yet established.

Also, iTunes fails to launch. Quits unexpectedly.

It's a bad install... that's all I can say... Better back up all your stuff before it's too late, than do a clean install this time and see what happenes.

I first did an archive and install on my Quicksilver G4, and iChat wouldn't work. Than i did a clean install, and iChat fails to start-up. Same thing with my buddies 12in Powerbook. Anyone else have this problem?

I've narrowed it to a permissions problem.

I was able to login as root and start up iTunes without a hitch.

I also noticed under Netinfo Manager I was erased from the group "staff."

Hopefully this is all sorted out...

Still working on it...

As for the Finder issue, I erased the finder plist. Apparently if you crash the Finder while syncing to your iDisk, you will corrupt the preference file.

I've reproduced this problem TWICE now.

Yes I had this problem. I still can't open iChat on my B&W. I somehow got it working on my iBook, but any attempts to recreate the process on my B&W have failed, so I'm at a loss.

Oh, and this thread has a pretty ambiguous title. Panther support threads are OK now, but thread titles still need to be descriptive.

Yeah, Xeo, it doesn't work for the two computers on our side of campus either. A 12in Powerbook or my 867 Quicksilver. Here is a thread on Apple's forums about the same issue.

Problems fixed.

Sorry about the lack of specificity. It's kind of hard to be specific when your entire system is acting weird...

1. Went into Netinfo manager and re-added myself as part of "staff."

2. Repaired permissions.

3. Silk was responsible for the Finder and iTunes acting up. Deleted the program.

Panther is finally functioning normally.
