Just wanted to pop in and say after upgrading to Panther on my G5 1.6 I am quite happy. I love Expose, Fast User Switching, the updated UI and the Snappiness. Who else here is pleased with the latest from Cupertino?

I'm not going to call an ambulance this time because then you won't learn anything.

I love it too!

Now, w/o taking up another thread, I want to share an observation I have made: All Office X feel A LOT more responsive than in Jaguar and load quite a bit faster too.

Anyone agree/disagree?

One hour so far and nothin' but joy here. I did an upgrade install over the G5 version of Jagwyre. Even the Logitech drivers for my keyboard and mouse seem to work just perfectly.

And exposé is much cooler than I thought it would be.

Cliché or not, Panther is totally Snappy™ on my G5!

So far, I've been very happy overall... much, much snappier on my TiBook 867MHz, and the majority of the most annoying (to me) bugs/things needing improvement have been addressed:

- certain special characters no longer cause confusion when copying to SMB shares, or manipulating files on SMB shares
- no more DNS stupidness thus far (like forgetting default search domains)
- javascript-based hyperlinks that did not work in the previous Safari now work
- network browsing is much more streamlined
- scrolling folders with a large number of files no longer has any sort of lag
- network performance has increased immensely! getting about 18MB (megaBYTES) per second peak from my RAID server over 1000mbps ethernet
- internet connect app is MUCH improved, and now has support for multiple VPN profiles, as well as IPSec connections
- eye candy, eye candy, eye candy!
- lots more, but I've already rambled enough.

I do have a couple complaints though:

- printing to my laserjet1200 via a CUPS server on my LAN yields font problems... can't seem to track down the cause of this -- worked fine in .2
- one unexplained lockup
- AFS home directory encryption causes a SEVERE performance impact.. understandable, yes, but that 18MB/sec network throughput I mentioned above was down to about 2MB/sec when copying to an AFS-encrypted home directory
- would like the ability to resize the icons (smaller) in the Finder sidebar

All and all though, WELL worth the $130!!!

I'm very impressed with 10.3. There is a quite noticeable speed boost on my G4/400 AGP. No problems so far.

Favourite enhancements:

1) DVD Player 4

2) Expose

3) Finder

4) Incredibly faster Help Viewer.

5) Font Book

6) Character Palette improvements.

7) Application switcher (far easier to see which apps are running).

8) Software Update in the Apple menu.

9) Preview 2.1
