Just installed Panther on an iBook 800. Everything went smooth, everything's fast and snappy.

But one thing has me stumped. How do I add a specific share from a specific workgroup to my finder shortcuts?

In Jag, I was able to mount the volume and declare it a favorite. Then whenever I wanted to remount the share (for my music especially) I simply went to 'Favorites' and selected it. It appeared below my normal HD icon and all was well.

Now, however, I have a couple problems. If I browse the 'Network' in the finder bar, I can locate my local workgroup (I'm on a LAN with six Windows boxes and my single iBook.) When I open the workgroup, I'm asked for my username and password for the Win share. But this is another problem. I can't seem to get my Mac to remember my username and password to the share -- even after I add it to the keychain.

Anyway, I browse to the share once I put my password it, and I can access it. But if I try dragging it over to the shortcut bar, it appears to *WANT* to go, but it doesn't stick.

If I drag the share to my desktop, and error message pops up and tells me I don't have rights. (I'm logged in as an 'ADMIN' -- what additional rights do I need??)

And if I make an alias of the share and drag the alias to my desktop, that works -- but then when I reboot, the alias can't find the original, and I have to go through the same process again.

So how in the world do I get back to how it used to be with Jag -- one click access to my windows share? I want to be able to put in the username and password once, have my Mac remember it -- and I want to be able to simply click on the share to get to it. I don't want to have to browse the network, locate the workgroup, find the share, enter the password ... yadda yadda yadda.

Help!

I have the EXACT same experience.

I went to 'connect to server' and typed the address smb://etcetcetc, then clicked the plus button so its on my list of favorites, and mounted the share after putting in my user/pass. The drive mounted.

Making an alias of it would not work - can't find the original after disconnecting. Also, it will not save my user/pass despite clicking 'save in keychain' -

Its not such a big deal since I CAN connect to the share, but its not one-click access from the desktop like I would prefer -

Yup, I think its a *bug*!
