I have a Dual g4 1gig with PS 7.0, a Wacom Intous2 tablet, Epson 7600 printer, Epson 3200 scanner, Xerox 860 laser printer, Canon i850 printer, Office for Mac.(9.2), Safari.

These are the main things that
I'm concerned about. Everything that I have mentioned has the lastest updates in 10.2.8.

Is it neccessary to do a clean install for 10.3?
I would prefer not to. It's a big hassle and a day out of my life.

also,

I'm about to purchase one of the new Powerbooks. My understanding is if it has 10.2.8 installed, 10.3 would be a free upgrade. What would happen if I tried to install it on my Dual G4 as well?

Your comments and advice would be most appreciated.

There is a chance that you could lose the use of one or more of the devices that are connected to your desktop Mac. I have read a few reports of that, so far, but it's not wide spread.

Other than that, Panther is an upgrade. Install it as such. Just make sure you do the proper archiving of your important files, run Disk Utilities and Repair Permissions before you start.

If you're buying a PowerBook and you get Panther in a full install package, then it will work on your desktop as well.

By the way, my computer is a Dual 1GHz G4 with Photoshop 7 and WACOM tablet, among other things. Everything works great!

Thanks, I checked. The drivers for my Epson printer and scanner are not available yet. Looks like I'll have to wait awhile.
