I have the machine above (plus a PB12" 867) and I'm curious as to how it performs speed-wise. I have an AGP Radeon 9000 so Quartz Extreme is supported, plus a new 60gb drive and 832mb RAM. Will I see real speed benefits? Does Classic perform quicker? (I use Quark 4.1 still in Classic). Any comments greatly appreciated!

Well for what it's worth, I installed it on my Pismo 400 Mhz/640 Ram and it's performing awesome. The finder is a little slower, you can feel the drag when things open mostly because of animation but that can be turned off.

Overall, OS 9 application performance for the two apps I still use is just as good or better. Application launch time is definitely better and it's running Panther beautifully.

Hopefully this gives you an idea. Also, note another person on macnn upgraded his ibook 300 and had a positive review. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I have a PowerBook G4 400 and it feels much quicker overall. It's maybe 90% as fast as OS 9 was. Jaguar was about 70%.

i'm running it on a sawtooth 450 with a Radeon 8500, and it seems a lot quicker than jaguar. like just opening new folders and scrolling and such...it's a lot quicker.
