I read in a different forum that it's not possible to install the Panther up to date CD's on 2 different computers. I ordered them for my new 17" Rev "B" but I also have an 800 iMac G4. I read that if I try the install on the iMac then I would get a kernal panic since the Panther CD's were ordered for the Powerbook. Is this true?

no, it will not cause a kernel panic. however it is a violation of the license agreement to install on more than 1 computer - apple's software license clearly states that it is a *per machine* license.
