Why is there no horizontal scroll bar in Finder windows when in column mode? For example, clicking on Applications doesn't allow me to scroll higher up in the tree, same for all the other "shortcuts".

Your 'root' in column view is whatever you clicked on in the left pane. It isn't just a shortcut to that folder.

To have the functionality you are asking for put an icon in the shortcut bar the way you did in Jaguar.

That seems dumb. Why would they limit the functionality of the sidebar.

It's not dumb, it's nice -- it makes it easy to snap back to Applications, or Documents, without getting lost amidst everything else.

To reiterate what clarkgoble said, if you drop folders onto the toolbar area they were just like in Jaguar, showing the entire path from the root.

Give it a chance.

try this. minimize the toolbar, (hit the button in the upper right) then bring the window toolbar back. on my computer i get the full path (all the way back to the computer), even with sidebar. this is kinda curious to me.

am i the only one that this happens to?

Dan.

I just found that you can get the same effect if you select your computer from the path drop-down menu in the toolbar. Guess it's not a bug?

i just resolved the root issue.

hit cmd-uparrow (might have to hit it a few times) to get the full root (all the way back to the computer)

Also, if you have toolbar folders and you try to drag a file into one of them when the window is in the background, the Finder doesn't allow you.

This doesn't work for me. I can put the Applications icon in the toolbar, but when I click it, I get Apps as root, just like from the sidebar. What am I doing wrong here?
