I was really about to give up on the Mac.
I've been down since the Quadra and Centris machines were bad boys. My first Mac was a 7100/66 that I sold for a speedier 7100/80!
But then Apple stumbled. The G4 was quickly outpaced by run of the mill i386 technology. My dual G4/450 grew old waiting for OSX. My dual G4/800 never felt that fast. The OSX UI was sluggish and not very refined.
I use Macs, W2k and WinXP and Linux computers. The Mac spell was broken, I just wanted cheap, fast computers and Mac was not delivering.
For whatever reason, I decided to "throw down" one last time. Got a dual 2Ghz G5. Hmm. It was ok. Still not blowing me away.
Enter Panther! Finally! Can we cuss here? ****ing finally! The UI is not sluggish! The finder grows up!
I'm ok for at least a little while now...
Anyhow, a dual G5/2Ghz and Panther is a nice set-up. Good work Cupertino.

I found Panther to be quite responsive. It has been an outstanding operating system for me over the last year or so.

I agree. I just finished installing Panther on a TiBook 1 GHz and I'm impressed. The speed increase is worth the upgrade alone. Also, I have not experience any issues with 3rd party apps (Photoshop, Flash, Office, etc).

Panther is so cool I just bought a 23 inch Cinema Display to go with it. Now I just have to figure out how to fix the screen flicker that I think is the fault of the DVI-ADC adapter.

I was happy with Jaguar... it's where I started thinking that they would get it right.
I'm happy they did.
I'm anxious to see what they can do with a few updated...

To me the menu dividers add so much. Literally, I just feel more at home now then with that blasted blank space they had.....
I also dig the new Aqua, but I wish the scroll bars would get a make over. I think they almost have it perfect now, its enough to add some style, but not enough to distract you or make it hard on the yes like the old stripes did for me any-ways. And hopefully Apple will start controlling the brushed metal, even though I really don't mind the Finder in it, and I thought I would.
