Hey all,
I have a .dmg file that I would like to burn as an image on my Windows PC (my iBook does not have a CD-Burner)
I read somewhere that if I open up diskcopy and convert the image to a cd/dvd master i could then move the image to the windows computer, rename the file to have a .iso extension and then burn it as a normal iso image.
Anyone know if this is true?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

That method certainly works if you have Nero installed. I use it all the time.

Buy Panther. Don't pirate it.

I tried that "burning with XP" method and it would not burn as bootable , maybe I did something wrong...doubt it.
Other than that it works fine to burn Mac readable backups.
I eventually remove the burner from my peecee and had it's back end attached to my G4's dvd/cdrom cables while having the side door open.
I then used a method I found on some website.
In Panther
1. Open Disk Utility
2. Click Image and then Convert
3. Select the bootable .dmg and click Open
4. Make sure the image format is "DVD/CD Master" and save your new image (This will yield an image called [yourname].cdr)
5. Open Toast and click and hold the Other menu option.
6. Select Disc Image and then drag [yourname].cdr onto Toast and select mount.
7. Click and hold the Other menu option again, but this time select Mac Volume.
8. Click the Select button and choose the mounted .cdr image you made.
9. Uncheck all the options in the pop up window (make sure optimize or autostart are NOT checked). Check the bootable option. Don't worry if it gives you a warning saying there is no system folder and so it will not be recognized as a startup disk (it is wrong).
Aside: the optimize option is what really messes up your disk making it unbootable.
10. Press Record. Wait.

This could also work in Jaguar. Just use Disk Copy instead of Disk Utility. And don't forget to save as DVD/CD Master.

That'll work real well on an iBook.
Oh.
And yes. You did do something wrong.

Don't be a wise ass.
I was simply pointing out what I had to do.
Oh.
And on my cdrw drive when burned in XP it doesn't work.
Ever hear of cdrw incompatibities? DOH

I burn it in Nero on XP and it won't boot. I have no other way to burn it, since it's a laptop burner.
