I do not want System 9 on my Powerbook.
I have installed Panther and cannot figure out how to delete System 9 folder.
It says I cannot delete it because it is required by the system.

How can I get rid of it.

Thanks

Log into root account, delete folder by moving to trash.

I am the only user on my powerbook.

How do I log in as root?

Thanks again.

You never need to log in as root in OS X.
"Get Info" on the Systemfolder and make yourself the owner of it. If you still can't delete it, move the Finder out first.
(and make sure Classic is not running )

This doesn't work. I'd like to delete my classic also and I don't want to screw around with root.

The message says that it is required by MacOS X, it says nothing about not having permission.

If you're the owner of the Classic Systemfolder then why don't you try to move it's contents one by one to the trash?

It may seem fun now, but wait till you need to boot into OS 9 for any number of reasons. If OS X gets borked, at least you can boot into 9 and have your computer again while you fix the problem in X. But nobody listens anyways. Nevermind. I still like OS 9 and think it's a great backup to have that only takes a minimal amount of disk space for the safety net it can be.
