Personally, I think it's fantabulous.

English characters are not that apparent (relatively speaking), but when it comes to Asian fonts, woooo, anything else without font smoothing looks like crap.

In general, yes. I actually hate the font smoothing in Mac Office but everything else is okay.

I think it looks great as long as you have a decent (iow, not one of the default ones as they're too saturated) ColorSync profile loaded.

I noticed that increasing gamma to 2.0 - 2.2 helps a lot. Smoothing also looks much better on higher quality (re: bright) displays. For example, I like smoothing when the PB is connected to my Hitachi LCD -- but not so much on its 15" screen. It looks *fab* on any of the Apple ADC LCDs.

Is there an improvement in Panther?

Not really happy with font smoothing. It's a nice feature to have as an option, but for Safari, I wish I could just turn it off. Everything is slightly fuzzy, and the smaller the text, the worse it gets.

Probably the only joy of booting to 9 is nice, crisp readable text that scrolls 10x faster without font smoothing.
