Java is still dog slow in Panther

Not to be a naysayer, but the only other problem I have with Panther is that Java is still dog slow compared to Windows. What's up with that? Try to "run" the following Java applet in Panther, or Jaguar for that matter:

Soooo slow! Try running it from even a 433 Pentium on Windows 98. Fast as hell! On a modern Windows box? Forget about it.

Why the speed difference?

works perfectly fine on a 600 MHz G3 / 384 MB / 10.3

Plus, it's mostly a developer fault, but, for the most part, Java apps just does not work on Macs.

I hoped I could use some Java features on my e-trade account... but no, they still don't work.

Author once, play anywher? Nope.

One reason could be that it's using indexed color (if it is), because indexed color isn't natively supported by CoreGraphics.
