I've been plumbing around with Panther for a bit, and made some semi-interesting discoveries concerning Exposé.

Those of you who lament that the Dock is neglected, I think I found the answer: Exposé is actually rolled into the Dock, so it would appear that the developers working on the Dock were charged with implementing Exposé.

It also appears that the working name for Exposé was "WindowsVous" -- no doubt a play on "deja vous". Some strings from the Dock are interesting:

Code:
kuat:/system/library/coreservices/dock.app/contents/macos andrew$ strings Dock | grep wvous wvousfloat wvousfloatselected wvouscornertl wvouscornertr wvouscornerbl wvouscornerbr wvous-floater-pos wvous-pip-%x wvous-floater wvous-tl-corner wvous-tr-corner wvous-bl-corner wvous-br-corner wvous-showcorners wvous-floater-style wvous-maindisplay wvous-olddesktop wvous-spring-delay wvous-spring
For instance, if you type this into Terminal:

defaults write com.apple.dock "wvous-showcorners" -bool true

...and then relaunch the Dock, you'll get visual indicators where you have "hot corners" set for Exposé. I haven't mucked around with the other parameters yet; some seem obvious what they do, others not.

Alas, I don't see anything that is an obvious switch to allow you to include hidden application windows in the Exposé goodness.

I for one am glad that we don't have to go around saying "WindowVous".

<off topic>

Hm, maybe "freedom" is a difficult language - but shouldn't that be _deja-vue_?

I think it's fairly obviously a play on Rendezvous.

I was speaking of the band, actually ("Deja Vous") -- but it certainly could be anything. BTW, I think you mean "déjà vu"?

ok, so who emails this to the author of TinkerTool?
"And Zapp Brannigan, your score qualifies you as assistant delivery boy, second class."
"Hmm. I guess I'll have to sleep my way to the top. Kif, wake me when I'm there."
