Serial Number in 10.2 and 10.3?

Is it true that after a fresh install of 10.2 is connected to the Internet that a packet with a serial number that is unique to that CD is sent to Apple’s servers?
Does anyone know about 10.3?

Never heard of such a thing. As far as I know, what is sent to Apple is the registration information that was supplied at time of setup.

Actually, in Panther 10.3...you get 7 "free" logins; however, after that...you have to call Apple to activate your OS for further use...
