10.3 is changing the way i work. the app switcher (cmmnd tab), the sidebar..

what i like to do when i boot up (which is not often), is open my apps from the dock, then hide it.

i can access apps, even hide them, from the switcher.

is there a way to lock the dock, so i can use that screen real estate (and the dock won't pop up every time i'm near it)

and, of course, a key command or something to show it when i need it...

seems like a good idea...

Why don't you use "Login Items" to start your applications? That way you don't even have to click on them.

Then you could use one of the common hacks to disable the Dock completely.

i've thought of that, but, depending on where i am with my powerbook, i use different apps different times.

more importantly...what common hacks (and will they work in 10.3)??

thanx

I minimize dock on right (max Mag) You have to go within 1/8" of right side of screen to activate.

yes, but...for example, would be great to run safari full screen, and scroll on the right without the dock popping up.

etc..!

just dL'd "dock-a-bye", but nervous to try it in panther...anyone??

or other apps, ideas??

decided to be brave (or just reckless), and try it.

dock-a-bye kills the dock. works. made an alias of the dock app itself, so i can re-open it when i want.

put them in an easily-accessible folder, and i'm good to go.

OOPS! spoke too soon...killing the dock KILLS command-tab...!

so i'm back where i started

ask & ye shall receive...

a long long time ago (3 weeks), i posted this, looking for a way to kill the dock.

found an app to do just that, here .

still being developed, does this:
puts an icon in the menubar, lets you lock the dock, great for when you want to work fullscreen (i have several apps that this makes sense with).

easy to use, and gives u a dropdown of your open apps.

not perfect, but (for me, anyway), essential.

check it out!
