Click on the name of a folder or drive to edit it. Start the show desktop Exposé function. The name will move to the edge of the screen, like with my iPod.

Doesn't look like it - I was just able to reproduce it.

Me too. Looks like it happens with any file in any location. If you put Exposé into All window or Application mode, the name disappears completely.

OT: Why do so many people spell Exposé as "Expos". I've seen it happen over and over. Why is it so hard to get the "e" on the end? Even unaccented it's better than leaving it off.

I think it have to do with your font or browser setting. When you typed Exposé, it showed up as Exposé to me.

I'm able to see the correct spelling here. The topic showed accented "e" just perfectly.

It shows up like that for me too. Not sure what the deal is. Something to do with having Japanese input enabled?

OK. I figured it out. It's just a text encoding issue. I didn't think it was, because the character just doesn't show up at all. It's just non-existent. My default encoding is UTF-8. When I started messing with it, I found that "Western (ISO Latin 1)" is the only one which shows it properly. "Western (Mac OS Roman)" shows it as a capital E with an accent.

Anyway, I guess it's not everyone missing the e, it's just me not having the proper encoding set to read it. Although it's rather odd that you saw my typing of "Expos" with the accented e, since I actually typed out E-x-p-o-s and nothing after. I don't know how that would have snuck in there (and when I changed around the encoding, no characters popped up afterwards).

And I do use UTF-8 so I can read Japanese. I prefer that encoding to the alternatives since it's pretty generic and supports lots of characters. However, there are lots of sites which use "Japanese (Shift JIS)."

Everyone should always use unicode and the world would be a better place.

yeh, i reported this in the Panther bugs forum.

I can't imagine Apple didn't know about when Panther Shipped. Its not life threatening so I assume it will get fixed along the line.

I quite like it actually.

Funky bug. Whilst we're on the subject of bugs, what about that annoying Safari bug which sometimes freezes ones window size, and cannot be fixed even when quiting. I still have to keep a master copy of my Safari prefs in Panther as well it seems.

Really boring.
Sizzling like an isotope.
