Hi everyone... I just recently got my first mac (Ive been on PCs for 7 years). I can't figure out how to do a couple of simple things - I couldnt find answers in the help files either, so I was wondering if anyone on here could help me out... Here are my questions (dont laugh too hard):
1. How do I uninstall applications?
2. How do I rename files?
All you mac users must be shaking your collective heads right now
Anyways thanks in advance for any help!

1. How do I uninstall applications?
Drag the application to the trash. This method leaves behind preference files usually located in your home/Library/Preferences folder. They cause no problems, but you can trash them as well if you want to be thorough.
Occasionally applications will include an uninstaller.
2. How do I rename files?
Click twice slowly on the filename (like windows). You can also "Get Info" (apple-I among other ways) and change it there, but too many steps...

Nah. No Problem.

1) If the application has an uninstaller you should use that, but many times you can just drag the application's icon into the trash.
2) Click on the file's name in the Finder, wait a second or so, and it will become editable.

Hello maconvert! Welcome to the mac world!!!
To uninstall applications:
1- Drag the icon (or the folder) of the application to the trash.
2-Empty trash.
As simple as that. No dll's, no registry. If you really care about not leaving anything in your computer you can also do this:
- Open a finder, go to your home directory and type the name of the application in the search field. Trash the items you may find (usually a .plist file containing the preferences for the app or a .crash.log file).
To rename files: Click to select the file, wait a sec, click in the file's name.. it will become editable. Or click the file and press return key.
Don't be shy. Ask as many questions as you want.

You'll find there are so many nice little surprises when you use a Mac. Yes, OS X has its quirks and problems here and there, but overall it works wonderfully. I have a .Mac account that syncs my contacts, bookmarks, and calendars between 3 computers seamlessly. There's no way I could have done that simply in Windows.
