just did a Archive and Install. Everything works beautifully, except when I reboot, everything has gone back to factory defaults! the Dock goes back... iChat, Safari, expose, and so on.

this is crazy!!!

I don't know what I'm doing wrong here. Am I going to have to do a clean install, or what?

someone help!!!!

I am narrowing this down... I created a new account, and there is no problem there...

sounds like a permissions problem... check the permissions of your library folder...

I had exactly this problem with my upgrade... setting the permissions by hand was a problem as the finder's "apply to enclosed items" command doesn't seem to work. Instead I used shareware program called chop which fixed everything...

(as an aside I had the same problem with my itunes library)

yes, that's what it is... but I am simply not advanced enough to figure this *!#% out and it's driving me insane. I'm not sure exactly what to change. maybe we could sit down over iChat sometime and go over it or you can post what you think I should do here.

otherwise, I'm probably going to continue backing up data on CDs and then wipe my HDs clean and do a clean install.

I would have to second that: turn off FileVault for now. That fixed all of my problems with preferences not acting the way they were supposed to.

well, what if my FileVault is ALREADY off?

do you recommend turning it on, then back off?

someone else said to trash my prefs and reboot. I'll give it another go this evening when I get back home.

and the funny thing is, when I booted back into 10.2.8 on my other HD, the prefs were defaulted there, too! when I clicked on Mail, it crashed immediately. strange stuff!

didn't think this would effect another drive altogether.
