Ran across this old story about US Government department seals being present in a Panther beta.

Well, they're still here... anyone think of a creative use?

The following links and images only appear if you are using Safari in Panther:

Link to the folder with the seals:
file:///System/Library/CoreServices/...nts/Resources/

nifty, eh?

Interesting! The Activity window shows that you're not just whistling Dixie, either.

I made a little movie for you of me flipping through the resources -- enjoy:

I'm sure that this has to do with government contracts Apple has picked up. There are ID card resources in there too.

Seeing as I am a pacifist, and anti-American Gov. person, I deleted the offending images from the computer.

We're making a return, prepare the way for Communism 2003 style

Nah, to be honest, I'm just fussy about having images, or files from 3rd parties on the computer , no matter where they're from. I don't know, it feels kinda like a violation, even though it's probably totally innocent, and useful for the respective agencies.

it is quite obvious the US Gov. has some interest in Panther,

Secure delete ... go into your Finder menu, there it is, Secure Empty Trash.
In the earlier builds it had 1, 7 and 35 rewrites (when deleting a file).

FileVault is another one.

What do all the things on the army seal mean? Is the red hat significant? Thanks for the info

also... man you can really see that these were designed to look good on patches not on computer screens.
