Apple has a tool bar script called Set View Options.

I can change most of the parameters except
'show icon preview' Does anyone know how
to add this to the script.

I would like to have the finder window show
icons rather than just generic Preview files.

Set View Options (?) — This script functions as both a droplet and an applet. Drag folder(s) onto this script to set view options to the default settings stored in the script. When clicked, this script will set the view options of the front window. The script can be edited in the Script Editor application to change the view options. The script contains an optional parameter to set the size of the Finder windows as well.

Checking the Applescript Dictionary for the Finder in Panther, what you are looking for is listed in the "Type Definitions" suite as "Not Yet Available, Subject to Change".

The particular property is described as: "spatial view icon size integer" -- the size of icons displayed in Finder spatial view windows.

Thanks for the info ;)

I tried an app 'Finder Window Manager'
But it cannot change a non-previewed icon window into a previewed one either.

This is a strange as it would be a very handy
toolbar script.
