I just (over the course of 2 months) ripped 10 gigs of music and in upgrading to panther (erasing HD) for some reason didn't pass my thought process to make sure that folder was included on the backup drive, was erased. Is there ANY way, I can find that old iTunes directory or is it back to square one?

You may be able to recover your music. It depends on how you erased your hard drive when you did the Panther install. If you erased using disk utility then you are SOL but if you clicked the options button and chose to erase and install while the set up screen was on then you "may" be able to receover using Tech Tool or Disk Warrior. But it's not guatanteed.

I don't know why it would matter which app you used to erase the drive. As long as you haven't written over the files yet (either by zeroing the drive or simply saving over 'em), you have a chance of recovering the files.

The first thing to do is to severely restrict what you do on your computer. You don't want to write over the files still on the hard drive.

Second, you'll need a disk utility such as TechTool Pro to recover the data.

Good luck!
