Hey all,

I got my powerbook 1ghz titanium about 4-5 months ago -- after getting over the initial euphoria, I've noticed lately that my powerbook seems a bit sluggish. A prime example would be:

I'd be typing an essay in Word and when I misspell a word, osx hangs for about 1 second (its pretty noticable). Or when save the file hangs another 1.5 seconds or so... Is there anything I can do to speed up OSX??

My current config is pretty standard from the day I purchased:
1GHz 514mem 60gig -- I would think this would be enough processor and ram to keep my pbook from being sluggish... suggesstions really would be appreciated!

Never doubt the ability of Microsoft software to make even the fastest machine seem slow.

There are many threads about how to speed up Word (just do a search), you might also change your energy settings - if you find your PB slow to respond when you're on battery power, it might be because you've told it to spin down the hard drive whenever possible. The result is a short lag any time you need to access the HD as it spins up again.

One thing with Word I always do is go into the preferences and turn of "Feedback with sound". What happens is that the Powerbook will put the sound hardware to sleep if it hasn't been used for a little while and it results in a pause when Word tries to make its stupid little noise to alert you to a misspelled word.

great suggestion. make sure that under the energy settings control panel "put hard disk to sleep when possible" is UNchecked, and performace is set to Highest, not Automatic or Reduced.
