Hello all,
I have a clean install of Panther 10.3 with X11 1.0 running on a Dual 533MHz G4.
It takes about 10 seconds to launch my X11.app. This time is the same whether I have my .xinitrc in my home directory or not. This seems a bit slow to me so I was wondering what other people's experience was & what might be causing the slowdown on my end.
Thanks for your responses
Cheers, Chris

This is subjective. X11 apps, in my experience, tend to be a little slower to load than carbon/cocoa apps.
I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I don't think it is subjective. It takes me 10 seconds to launch X11.app on my hardware.
What are other people's launch times? (I think something is fishy with my setup).

Takes about 7 seconds for me (2x1.25GHz G4, 10.3, fresh install, no custom config stuff yet)

About the same here... I have identical hardware as you but I am still running 10.2.x. I usually open X11.app and leave it open during my entire session because I use so many X11 based apps. After X11 starts everything all other X11 based apps seem as snappy as Carbon/Cocoa... sometimes even snappier.
A possible reason why it may seem slow to start at first is that it may not benefit as much from the "pre-link" stuff that Mac OS X does for the native apps. Just a guess.
