My son connected to Xbox live by turning on internet sharing on his FP iMac which is connected via Airport. He plugged in the Xbox via ethernet cable.

This worked fine until we installed Panther. Now the Xbox cannot get connected at all.
If we connect the Xbox directly to the Base Station, it connects.

Just to let you know it must be something with Panther because my husband still has Jag on his iBook and the Xbox live connects fine with internet sharing.

Anyone have any ideas?

I can confirm this, both me and another MacNN forum user (kcmac) discovered this and have been talking to Linksys about the issue (maker of the WGA11B Wireless B Adapter)....they are "currently researching" the problem and hopefully can remedy it....

Is Panther sending out different broadcast signals or something?

I am now having this problem with my PS2.

I've tried everything automatically then tried to do it manually....internetsharing doesn't seem to work in Panther for Xbox or PS2.

Unfortunately, the guy from Linksys that was looking into this is not there any longer. I have not been able to get a resolution in my many emails to them.

OwlBoy, do you know if it works or are you just guessing. I still think it has something to do with the software base station.

Does anyone know someone that uses a hardware basestation to wirelessly hook up to xbox live with the linksys or the microsoft version?

Not only did we pay for hardware that quit working, but our xbox live subscription is now worthless. (Has been for a long time. This is not just a Panther issue. Think it started with 10.2.8.)

Well, I am just assuming since it is hardware based and all.

The software sharing, as you can see, can be finicky.

Dang. I was hoping you knew for sure. We are almost desperate enough to try it but the MS product is pricey.

gorickey. Do you have access to someone that would let you borrow an Airport basestation or similar and see if it is the software basestation that is at issue here?

I would be tempted to ship our linksys adaptor to someone that would like to test it out using a hardware base station. Of course, I would probably want it back.

Yes; however, I no longer have my Linksys Wireless Game Adapter or XBL (expired)...

Sorry to let you down!

You're not letting me down. You've been pretty helpful in this matter.

I already gave my son back the money he lost on XBox live since I am the know it all IT guy in our house and keep upgrading. Look where that got me...

Oh well, I like 10.3.3 so I wouldn't think of going backwards now.

Amen, I mean I know it sucks for your son; however, having 10.3.3 is far more important to me than XBL (which I hardly used as is)...

I even have a spare iBook around I could have let 10.2.8 stay on; however, it just wasn't worth it to me anymore.

I am having this problem too. Although I am not using wireless. I went out and bought a new PCI ethernet adapter that is compatible with mac. I was trying to share my build in ethernet connection with my pci connection to my ps2. I have tried with a cross over and a normal ethernet cable. I have also tested the same set up on a PC laptop and it worked. So I dont think it is the wireless component because I am not even using wireless. I hope this helps and I hope we get a answer soon (I want to play FFXI!).

I've got a B&W G3 that doesn't have an Airport slot, so I was thinking of getting a wireless to ethernet bridge such as the Linksys wet-11 and hooking both it and my xbox up to it. (via a hub or switch) Does anyone have experience useing an Xbox with a bridge? I want it for XBL but primarily for system link play in the house.
