i tried posting earlier and i don't think it worked, so i apologize if this is a repeat. (i did a search and couldn't find the thread)

many people have stated and apple has publicly recognized that there are problems with firewire hardrives and panther buthas anyone had a problem with their ipod as well?

i used my ipod to back up my files and apps when doing a clean install of panther. everything worked fine. then about three or four days ago my ipod stopped syncing with itunes. when i tried to update it all i got was a spinning beachball and i had to restart my comp (it's a tibook). now if i dock my ipod my comp won't even recognize it. i get an error asking me to eject it or reformat the disc.

i haven't lost any files on the ipod and i don't have anything essential that i need, but has anyone had a similar problem that they know how to fix it? i should add that my ipod is no longer in firewire mode. is it possible that this is related to the external hardrive problem with panther? from what i've read it's specific to certain makes of third party hardrives, which is why i'm skeptical that this is the same problem.

anyway, i would appreciate any help anyone can offer before i call up apple and see what they have to say.

thanks

The problem with FireWire drives is limited to FireWire 800 devices; the iPod is a FireWire 400 device, so this isn't an issue.

It sounds to me like the iPod's hard drive was corrupted when you restarted your computer. That's why you're getting the "eject or format" dialogue.

You can either try to repair the iPod's hard drive with a disk utility, or you can erase the drive and then do a restore using Apple's iPod software.

Seemingly unrelated (or is it?) but Panther and my iSight don't get along.

I never had any problems under Jaguar and iChat A/V beta....

Under Panther, it always bitches about the camera being used by another application (b.s.).

The only way to get it back is the unplug it for like a minute (== pain in the butt)

So, are there major firewire issues in Panther, or what?
signatures are a waste of bandwidth
especially ones with political tripe in them.
