Okay. I installed Panther. Awesome and full of cool stuff. BUT my dual-ethernet Airport failed to work. It was working perfectly with Jaguar and when I booted into OS 9 it works beautifully. But it doesn't seem to like Panther. I'm using a Pismo (PB G3 FW). I downloaded and installed the new Airport utility that was posted on 10/27. Still no luck. The error in "network" is that the airport is connected but cannot find or get an IP Address, and has a yellow dot. Really weird. I tried all sorts of things, the assistant, internet connect to turn off and on, disconnecting the power, etc. After hours of tooling around, miraculously the yellow dot turned green and it works now, but I didn't do anything. I'm not sure what's going on. Also, since I installed OS X, when I go to the airport utility, 99 out of 100 times, it never finds my base station. And when it does, it doesn't like the password. The error here says it cannot read the configuration. the firmware installed is 4.07. I understand the latest is 4.08. In the past I've been able to upload the firmware my resetting the passord, which turns into "public" for 5 minutes. But this time, resetting doesn't work. I still get "cannot read configuration" so I can't upload the newest firmware.
Has anyone had this problem, and if so, knows what to do? HELP! thanks!

Sorry to hear about your hassles. I'm waiting about Panther because of references in other threads (see "Networking") about Airport problems. But it is often unspecified in those thread how many of the Airport problems are encountered with Panther or with Jaguar.
Also, it's often not specified whether problems are occurring only with AEBS or also with original ABS. It's kept me from upgrading either Airport or OS. You may want to post this also in the Networking forum -- and see if other Apple Discussion boards have fix.
Really seems to me like some AEBS firmware upgrade is called for. Dropped Internet connections are reported all over the place. Not a happy scene.

I, having the same problem as you Ingeniero.
But mine is not only with Airport but with Modem and ethernet configurations.
It seems that bug destroys and or forgets your preferences in the moment you do a restart. I had to shut down once or twice until its recognized again. What's really curious is that there is the correct configurations for modem an so on as i entered them, but the system forgets about them till' shut down and start.
It's an obvious network bug but i'm still looking at it.

hi MacLone, if you do find a solution, let me know. I'm hoping that a new update (10.3.x) will fix the problem. It's really weird. All of my settings are correct and no issues. Again, it was working perfectly with Jaguar and if I boot into OS 9, it also works nicely. My latest attempt was to connect the ethernet cable directly into the ABS, and the airport admin utility will see it, so I was able to upload the to the current firmware. However, this did not fix the problem. so far, I have the latest firmware and airport admin. utility.

I seem to have found the solution, thanks to a tip on the Apple discussion.
Most of us probably had our ethernet cable plugged into the LAN "arrows" port of the ABS prior to upgrading to Panther. Well, I unplugged it and connected it to the WAN "circle" port and it NOW works like before!! This made my day. Thanks to Bryan Rowland1 who gave the tip. The apple thread is here. Hope this helps everyone with this issue.
