When using FUS, the connections aren't maintained. I noticed this being plugged into the network at school. I "locked" my computer with FUS and when I logged back in all my network connections had been lost and things like ichat ect started up from a disconnected state immediately. Anyway to get Panther to maintain network connections?

Not really, this feature was put in place to prevent programs from fighting over ports. Until Apple builds a "virtual switch" like VPC did around version 5 to deal with this problem, you'll just have to accept it.

Is this using modem, ethernet, or airport? I know for fact ethernet drops connection when its assigned via dhcp. I know XP shares the connection to all users logged in because I've left my account logged in on a machine before but no connection to the net and someone else establishes a connection under a diff user and all my net apps get activated (IM, Mail, ect). Would really like Apple to implent something like this instead of all programs disconnecting when returning to the log in screen.

Only iChat drops it's connection. All other network connections are left intact. I lock my screen via FUS all the time with ~10 active SSH sessions and they have no problems. iChat drops it's connection because Apple forces it to.

My MSN still stays signed in. iChat kicks out though.
